About Westminster Abbey Choir School

Westminster Abbey Choir School is an independent boarding school for boys, situated within the historic precincts of Westminster Abbey. Founded around 1560, the school occupies a building dating from 1915, which has been thoughtfully updated over the years. It is owned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster and is overseen by a governing body that includes members independent of the Abbey. The school exists solely to educate and care for the choristers of the Abbey choir, offering a balanced education within a Christian environment. Boys board full time, living together in small dormitories grouped by age, with probationer choristers able to return home at weekends. The school aims to be both a specialist music school and a happy, supportive place in which to live. Most pupils come from families in the southeast of England, though some travel from further afield. All pupils are talented in music, and the school adapts its curriculum to meet a range of individual needs, including those of pupils with special educational needs and those for whom English is an additional language.
