About South Hampstead High School
South Hampstead High School is an independent day school for girls, founded in 1876. It comprises a junior school, which includes an Early Years Foundation Stage, and a senior school on a separate nearby site. The school is owned and managed by the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), with governance supported by a local board of governors. The school aims to nurture a love of learning and a curiosity about the world, helping pupils to fulfil their academic potential. It also places great importance on pupils finding their voice, growing in confidence, showing kindness and respect, and appreciating difference in others. Pupils come from a range of family backgrounds and are identified as being of well above average ability across both schools. The school supports pupils with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, as well as a number of pupils for whom English is an additional language. The curriculum is also adapted for those with particular talents in sport, music, and drama.
