About Eton College
Eton College is a boarding school for male pupils, situated on the outskirts of Windsor, Berkshire. Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, the school has a long history rooted in providing education to scholars. Pupils board in one of 25 houses located throughout the town, each overseen by a housemaster and a dame. The school is governed by a provost, a vice-provost and 10 fellows, with both the provost and vice-provost resident at Eton. The school aims to encourage independent thought and a love of learning, whilst helping every pupil to discover and make the most of their individual strengths. Pastoral care is central to school life, with a focus on physical and mental wellbeing, emotional maturity, and the development of qualities such as self-confidence, perseverance, and integrity. Respect for individuality and teamwork are also valued parts of the community. Eton is academically selective, drawing pupils primarily from the UK, with a small number attending from the USA, Europe, and Asia. The school identifies and supports pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, including conditions such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, providing additional specialist help where needed. The school has also expanded its leadership team in recent years, including the creation of a dedicated director of safeguarding role.
