About Heath Mount School
Heath Mount School is a co-educational day and boarding preparatory school, founded in 1796 and set in a rural location close to Ware in Hertfordshire. Children may board on a flexi basis from the age of seven, and the school is a registered charity overseen by a board of governors who also serve as trustees of the Heath Mount School Trust. The school aims to provide a secure and happy environment where pupils can develop their own talents, play and create, while being prepared for future challenges. It seeks to foster imagination, a love of learning, and qualities such as initiative, determination and independence. Scholarship programmes are available across a range of areas including academic ability, art, drama, music and sport, and Spanish is offered as a modern language from Year 3 upwards. The school has also invested in facilities including new buildings for performing arts, Nursery, and Years 3 and 4, as well as a dance studio and a fitness suite for older pupils. Pupils' ability on entry is broadly in line with the national average, assessed through a combination of nationally standardised tests and the school's own assessments. The school identifies pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, offering targeted additional support where needed, and provides further challenge for those identified as more able or talented through scholarship programmes and extra-curricular activities.
