About Dragon School

Dragon School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school, founded in 1877, originally for the sons of university staff. It moved to its present site at the turn of the 20th century and became fully co-educational in the 1970s. The school operates as an educational trust with charitable status, overseen by a board of governors. It has two sections: a pre-prep for pupils from Reception to Year 3, and a prep for pupils in Years 4 to 8, with nine boarding houses accommodating pupils between eight and thirteen years of age. Day pupils come from a range of backgrounds, mostly within a 25-mile radius, while boarders include children from British families living overseas as well as nationals from 31 different countries. The school aims to inspire, encourage and develop free-thinking, confident young people. The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those for whom English is an additional language, and those with particular talents in sport, drama and music. The curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of all its pupils, reflecting the school's commitment to helping every child thrive.
