About Caterham Preparatory School

Caterham Preparatory School is an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 11, established in 1935. The school is set in spacious grounds within two large Edwardian houses and adjacent accommodation, alongside the senior school. It is a registered charity, governed by a single body of trustees that also oversees Caterham School for older pupils, with a dedicated committee holding particular responsibility for the prep school. The school has recently become fully independent. The school aims to develop the whole person, drawing on its founding Christian principles. It seeks to prepare pupils for the challenges of senior school and beyond, nurturing their ability to engage with a changing world as problem-solvers and innovators, with confidence in their own abilities and respect for others. Most pupils come from professional families within around fifteen miles of the school. The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, as well as providing extra provision for those with particular gifts or talents, ensuring that every child receives the support they need.
