About The King Alfred School
The King Alfred School is an independent co-educational day school situated on the edge of Hampstead Heath in north west London. Founded by parents in 1898, the school was established with the belief that pupils should be educated in a secular environment that encouraged learning for its own sake. The school occupies two sites directly across the road from one another, and is owned and run as a charitable trust by the King Alfred School Society, with a governing Council whose members are drawn from the Society and include parents of current and former pupils. The school aims to maximise the potential of each pupil by providing a holistic education that combines a rigorous and inspiring academic experience with genuine personal development. Most pupils come from families with artistic, professional or business backgrounds within a ten-mile radius of the school. The school supports a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and information processing difficulties, and provides additional English language support where needed. The curriculum is also adapted for more able pupils and for those with particular talents in art, music and sport.
