About St Edmund's School
St Edmund's School is a co-educational day and boarding school with a long history, having been founded in 1749. The school moved to its current site overlooking the city of Canterbury in 1855, and since 1972 it has educated the choristers of Canterbury Cathedral. Boarding pupils are accommodated in a senior and junior house on site, as well as a house for male choristers situated in the cathedral precinct nearby. The school is a charitable trust administered by a board of governors, and nursery provision now extends to two-year-olds. The school welcomes a diverse community of pupils. Day pupils come largely from the Canterbury area and represent a wide variety of backgrounds, while boarders come from around 20 nationalities. The school is attentive to the needs of all its pupils, supporting those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those for whom English is an additional language, and those who show particular ability or talent in sport and the creative arts. At the heart of St Edmund's is a caring ethos grounded in Christian principles. The school aims to help every pupil take pride in their achievements, grow into humble and responsible members of society, and leave well prepared for their personal and professional lives.
