About King's College School, Wimbledon
King's College School is an independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18 and girls aged 16 to 18, situated on the border of Wimbledon Common. Founded by Royal Charter in 1829 as the junior department of King's College, University of London, the school moved to its current site in 1897 and is today overseen by a board of governors. A junior school for boys aged 7 to 11 shares the same site and governing body, though it is run separately.
The school aspires to help every pupil develop an independent and enquiring mind, find enjoyment in ideas, and achieve their best. It aims to ensure that all pupils feel equal and that their pastoral, social and academic needs are met in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support.
Pupils come from a culturally diverse mix of British and international families living in and around London. The school has identified a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and physical or mental health difficulties, with additional specialist support provided for some of these pupils. English is an additional language for a number of pupils, reflecting the broad and varied backgrounds that make up the school community.

Admissions
King's College School, Wimbledon is one of Britain's most academically distinguished independent schools for boys. It consistently places among the highest-performing schools in the country, while placing equal emphasis on developing the whole person – intellectually, creatively and in character.
King's is looking for boys with genuine potential as well as current academic achievement. The admissions process – combining written papers, a headteacher's reference and an interview – is designed to build a rounded picture of each candidate, not simply rank them by exam score. Applications are welcome from all backgrounds, including students with SEND, disabilities or English as an Additional Language, for whom exam concessions may be available.
Entry involves several stages.
Registration is the starting point, and King's recommends completing it by the end of Year 5 or the start of Year 6 at the latest. For September 2027 entry, registration opens on 20 May 2026 and closes on 3 November 2026. There is a non-refundable registration fee of £210. As part of registration, parents upload a passport photo, end-of-Year-5 report and a brief outline of academic and co-curricular interests. The school also requests a confidential reference directly from the headteacher. Boys in receipt of Pupil Premium can apply to have the registration fee waived.
The entrance examinations take place in December of Year 6. There are three papers: English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. Specimen papers for English and Maths are available on the school's website; sample verbal reasoning papers are widely available from booksellers. All candidates must sit the exams in person at King's – including overseas applicants.
Following the exams, a group of candidates is invited to interview in January. Interviews are conducted by experienced staff and are used to explore potential and character alongside exam performance. Boys not invited to interview will not proceed further in the process.
Offers are made in mid-February. Note that it is not possible to apply for both 11+ and 13+ entry – both are assessed in Year 6, with offers for each made at the same time.
Academic scholarships (Rogers and Cayley awards) are awarded automatically to candidates who perform exceptionally well – no separate application is needed. Music and Sport scholarships are also available, with auditions and assessments taking place after the registration deadline; results are released alongside academic outcomes. Bursaries are available for families who need assistance with fees and can be applied for during registration.
All pupils must have the right to reside and study in the UK. King's does not sponsor students under the Child Student Visa Scheme. Boys offered a place will be asked to confirm acceptance and pay a deposit. An induction day is held in the Summer term before entry, with a second session before the start of the Autumn term.
