About Bute House Preparatory School for Girls

Bute House is a preparatory school for girls aged four to eleven, situated in West London. The school is organised into three phases — lower, middle, and upper — and is an educational trust within the Mercers' Company group of schools. Its current site has been home to the school since 1958, and its modern buildings are complemented by playing fields and an adjacent swimming pool. In recent years the school has invested in its facilities through two building programmes, the most recent of which was completed in 2019. This brought a studio theatre, a new library, a digital learning space, and refurbished facilities for science, music, art, and design technology. Bute House aims to identify and nurture every child's individual abilities and talents, fostering self-motivated learners and confident communicators in a non-competitive academic environment. The school places great importance on a broad curriculum, a genuine love of learning, and a happy, supportive community built on self-discipline, respect, and consideration for others. Pupils come from a range of professional backgrounds and live within the local area, and the school is experienced in supporting those with additional needs as well as those who benefit from further challenge and extension in their learning.

Mobile Phone Policy

We strongly advise students mobile phones should not be brought into school. Only year 6 pupils travelling to and from school are permitted to bring a phone to school. These pupils hand in their mobile phone to the school office and collect it at the end of the day. Pupils should not wear smart watches which have internet or mobile network access. Staff members may use their personal mobile phones during school break times but never in the presence of children and preferably in the staff room. All visitors are requested to refrain from using their mobile on the premises.
