About Barfield School
Barfield Prep School is an independent co-educational day school for children aged two to eleven years. It is part of the Prep Schools Trust and is overseen by a board of trustees, with a local advisory group supporting governance at school level. The school is led by a headmaster. At the heart of the school is a belief that happy children achieve more. Barfield aims to create an environment where every child feels supported as part of the Barfield Family, with a breadth of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to help them build confidence and be brave. The school works closely with families to ensure that the transition to secondary school is a smooth one. Pupils come mainly from two working parent families and live within thirty minutes travel of the school. The school supports 25 pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia, autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, all of whom receive additional specialist support. Two pupils have an education, health and care plan, and six pupils speak English as an additional language, two of whom receive additional support. Pupils identified as able, gifted or talented are given an individualised approach to their learning and are encouraged to pursue a scholarship.
