The Avenue Nursery and Pre-Preparatory School is an independent co-educational day school nestled in a residential part of Highgate. Founded in 1976 by the current principal — beginning life as a small child-minding group in her own home — the school moved to its present site in 1989 and has grown steadily ever since. It is led with the active involvement of its proprietors, who are supported by an advisory body. The school welcomes children from the age of two through to the end of Year 2. Its Early Years Foundation Stage includes a nursery for children aged two to four and a Reception class, while the pre-preparatory section caters for pupils in Years 1 and 2. Nursery children are now able to attend for full days, following the opening of additional accommodation. At the heart of the school is a genuine commitment to the happiness and wellbeing of every child. The school aims to provide a stimulating learning environment where each child feels valued, supported to grow in confidence, and encouraged to reach their potential — all within a friendly and nurturing community built on kindness, honesty and consideration for others. Pupils come from a range of backgrounds, including many international families living locally, and the school offers tailored support for those with additional learning needs or English as an additional language.
