About The Abbey School Reading
The Abbey School is an independent day school for girls, founded in 1887 and situated on its current site since 1905. The junior school is located on its own site nearby. The school has a Church of England foundation and warmly welcomes pupils of all faiths and none. The school aims to provide a challenging and fulfilling education that equips pupils to live with confidence, purpose and joy. Working in partnership with families, it seeks to support each pupil in expanding their horizons, discovering their passions and fulfilling their potential, encouraging both academic and extra-curricular achievement within an environment that values kindness and fellowship. Pupils come from a range of professional and cultural backgrounds in Reading and the surrounding area. The school supports pupils with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, including hearing impairment, speech and language difficulties, dyslexia and dyspraxia, with specialist help available where needed. English is an additional language for a number of pupils across both schools, and additional language support is provided where appropriate. In the senior school, pupils with particular talents in sport, music, drama and art have access to a specialist scholarship programme.
