About St Lawrence College
St Lawrence College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school with a long history, having first opened in 1879 under the name South-Eastern College before taking its current name in 1906. Becoming fully co-educational in 1983, the school also has a junior school on the same site. It is run as a charitable trust overseen by a board of governors. The school's aim is to add value to every child across all areas of school life, whether in the classroom, on the sports pitch, in the theatre or within the local community. Rooted in a Christian ethos that emphasises care and compassion, it seeks to provide a genuinely holistic education — one that supports strong academic outcomes alongside the development of skills such as teamwork, flexibility and problem-solving. The school welcomes pupils from a range of backgrounds, with most coming from professional and business families in the local area. Around a quarter of pupils are from international backgrounds, with more than twenty-five nationalities represented. The school provides additional support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those for whom English is an additional language, and those identified as more able, ensuring that a wide range of needs is met.
