About Shrewsbury High School

Shrewsbury High School is an independent day school for girls, comprising a junior school, a senior school and a sixth form. Owned by the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) and governed by its council, the school is supported by a local governing body. Founded in 1885, it moved to its present site in 1897, and all pupils are now based together on one site. The school aims to provide an education within an inclusive, caring and purposeful community, treating learning as an exciting journey of discovery for each individual. It seeks to open doors to a world of possibilities and to build pupils of character, encouraging moral integrity, compassion, respect for themselves and others, social responsibility and ambition. Pupils come mostly from the town of Shrewsbury or from rural Shropshire and the bordering counties, with many from families with professional, business or farming backgrounds. The school supports 32 pupils identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, all of whom receive additional specialist help. Two pupils hold an education, health and care plan, and 17 pupils speak English as an additional language, two of whom receive specialist support. The curriculum is also modified for pupils identified as more able, as well as for those with special talents in sport.
