About S. Anselm's School
S. Anselm's is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged three to sixteen, set in extensive grounds on the edge of Bakewell within the Peak District National Park. Founded in 1888 as a full-boarding preparatory school for boys, it became fully co-educational following the opening of its pre-preparatory department in 1976. The Nursery was added in 1992, and in 2015 the school extended its upper age range to sixteen through a separate facility known as S. Anselm's College. The school is a charitable trust administered by a board of governors. Day pupils come from a range of professional and farming backgrounds in the local area, while boarders, aged seven to thirteen, join from within the UK, Europe and the Far East, and are accommodated on the upper floors of the main school building. The school welcomes pupils with a variety of learning needs, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and provides additional support where needed. The school aims to encourage individuality, creativity, perseverance and tolerance, and to develop a love of independent learning. It seeks to instil in pupils the values of moral courage and inner strength, helping them to connect with the modern world and to make a positive difference to those around them.
