About Royal Grammar School (RGS) Guildford
The Royal Grammar School, Guildford, is an academically selective day school for boys, welcoming pupils from age 3 through to 18. The school has two sites, both close to the centre of Guildford, with a preparatory school covering ages 3 to 11 and a senior school for ages 11 to 18. Founded in 1509 and granted its royal charter in 1552, the school is a registered charity and limited company, overseen by a board of governors. The school aims to develop character and intellect within an atmosphere that encourages scholarship and in which every pupil is cared for and valued. It nurtures intellectual curiosity, creativity and a love of learning, while a wide range of extra-curricular activities helps pupils build important life skills. The school also seeks to foster self-discipline, responsibility and a sense of service to both the local and wider community. Pupils come from a range of professional backgrounds, predominantly from Guildford and the surrounding area. The school supports a number of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, and also has pupils for whom English is an additional language. Provision for the most able pupils and those with particular talents is available to all, in recognition of the fact that pupils develop at different rates.
