About Monkton Combe School

Monkton Combe School is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged between 13 and 19 years. The senior school sits on its own campus in the Midford Brook valley, while the pre-prep and prep schools are located on a separate campus on the edge of the city of Bath. Founded in 1868 to educate the children of clergy and overseas missionaries, the school remains true to those founding aims today, welcoming pupils from such backgrounds alongside many from the local area, surrounding counties, and overseas. The school aims to inspire young people to become confident, kind, and ambitious adults who live fulfilling lives. It nurtures a positive pastoral environment within a living Christian ethos, encouraging pupils to embrace the core values of confidence, humility, integrity, and service. The school is a registered charity, overseen by a board of governors. Pupils come from a range of professional backgrounds, with families living within a 20-mile radius of the school or further afield throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. Many parents choose the school for its distinctly Christian character. Boarding pupils are accommodated in six houses, four for boys and two for girls, and the school has recently added specialist classrooms for mathematics, science, music, art, and design technology.

Years 9-11 are not allowed smartphones during the school day. Sixth form pupils are allowed phones, but these should largely be kept out of sight, only being used in specified places in school. In the boarding houses, boarders are allowed to access their phones for set times in the evenings and weekends, and all phones are handed in overnight.
