About Ipswich High School

Ipswich High School is an independent day school for girls aged 3 to 18, founded in Ipswich in 1878 and based on its current site since 1992. The school is one of 24 schools within the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), with the Trust's Council holding overall responsibility and a local governing board providing advice and support. The school aims to educate girls to become resilient, positive and successful young women, ready to embrace the challenges of the future. All sections of the school, including the sixth form, are located on the same site, alongside a separate junior school that incorporates the Woodland Pre-prep for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Pupils come from a range of family backgrounds, and whilst the majority are from white British families, a number of other ethnic and cultural backgrounds are represented within the school. The school supports pupils with a variety of needs, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, and those for whom English is an additional language. A curricular enrichment programme supports pupils identified as more able in academic, musical, or sporting areas.
