About City of London Freemen's School

The City of London Freemen's School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged between 7 and 18. Founded in 1854 to educate the orphans of Freemen of the City of London, the school moved to Ashtead in 1926 and is overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is divided into a junior and senior school, each with its own building, and a Georgian mansion has been refurbished for use as a sixth form centre.

The school's mission is to encourage all members of its community to learn, to lead and to make a difference. It aims to nurture pupils to be ambitious and to grow intellectually, socially, athletically, creatively, emotionally and spiritually, developing determination, curiosity, confidence and independence to help them succeed in the next stages of their lives.

Most day pupils come from Ashtead, Epsom and the wider North Surrey area. The school also welcomes boarding pupils, the great majority of whom are international students from Hong Kong or mainland China. Support is available for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, and for those for whom English is an additional language.
