About Berkhamsted School
Berkhamsted Schools Group has a long and rich history, having been founded in 1541 by the Dean of St Paul's under licence from Henry VIII. A girls' school joined the foundation in 1888, and the schools were amalgamated in 1996 along with their preparatory and junior sections. Following further mergers with local preparatory schools, the group was established in 2011 and now incorporates six schools for pupils between five months and 18 years of age. The senior school operates as a combination of separate single-sex schools, each on its own campus, and a co-educational sixth form. Day pupils are drawn mainly from professional and business backgrounds in the surrounding area and north London, reflecting the cultural mix of the local communities, whilst boarders come mainly from overseas, particularly the Far East. The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, as well as those for whom English is an additional language. The school aims to deliver high standards of pastoral care and education both in and out of the classroom, nurturing pupils' enjoyment of learning and encouraging a spirit of enquiry and intellectual independence. It seeks to immerse pupils in a broad co-curricular programme, to foster enterprise, responsibility, and leadership, and to promote moral and spiritual values through its Christian tradition, with an emphasis on integrity, tolerance, and respect for others.
