About Alderley Edge School for Girls

Alderley Edge School for Girls is an independent day school for girls aged 2 to 18, located in Cheshire. Founded in September 1999 through a merger of two long-established girls' schools, Mount Carmel and St. Hilary's, the school is run as a company limited by guarantee and administered by a board of governors. It is organised into four sections: Early Years Foundation Stage, the junior school, the senior school, and the sixth form. The school draws its pupils from within around a 10-mile radius, spanning Cheshire and Greater Manchester, with families coming largely from professional and business backgrounds. A number of pupils have been identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia, and some receive additional specialist support. English is an additional language for a number of pupils, and those identified as more able or talented are supported through their lessons and extra-curricular activities. At the heart of the school's ethos is a commitment to nurturing confident, independent learners with curious minds and a genuine love of learning. Pupils are encouraged to reach their academic potential while also developing a strong sense of empathy and concern for others.
